Prescription and OTC Pain Medications Can Kill You!
Whether it's a prescription pain medication or an over-the-counter pain remedy, there doesn't appear to be a class of pain medications that is not without risk of exposing yourself to death when you take them!
The class of drugs known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) have been reported to cause heart attacks or stroke both of which can result in loss of life. It is essentially like a game of "Russian Roulette" to take these pills. All NSAIDS can additionally cause the following severe problems to threaten your health:
- high blood pressure
- congestive heart failure
- gastrointestinal bleeding
- kidney damage
- liver damage
- severe allergic response
A brief list of NSAIDS include:
- celecoxib (Celebrex)
- ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
- naproxen (Naprosyn)
- naproxen sodium (Aleve, Anaprox, Naprelan)
- diclofenac (Cataflam, Voltaren)
- indomethacin (Indocin)
- nabumetone (Relafen)
- oxaprozin (Daypro)
- meloxicam (Mobic)
- etodolac (Lodine)
- ketoprofen, ketorolac (Toradol)
Other medications can interact with these drugs causing very undesirable effects. If you have certain pre-existing medical conditions, known or unknown, they can prove disastrous. If you are pregnant, they can potentially harm your unborn child.
Tylenol is a Potential Killer!
Acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, is contained in more than 100 different products and combination products...including countless pain formulations, cold products, sinus preparations and more. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recently decided that these products will require a black box warning (FDA's highest warning) due to acetaminophen's proven risk of liver injury and death. Included in these black box warnings will be recommendations about limiting daily dosages. Other factors such as alcohol intake and genetics can potentiate the risks associated with taking acetaminophen.
Aspirin is a NSAID that Poses a Risk of Bleeding to Death!
A study in the British Medical Journal indicates that the use of aspirin to prevent heart attack in older adults (over age 70) may carry more risks than benefits. Over the past several years, doctors prescribing low dose (65mg) aspirin has become a standard and even routine medical practice to prevent heart attack and stroke caused by blood clots in patients at risk. The mode of action of this salicylate is to decrease platelet aggregation making platelets less likely to stick together and cause clots in the arteries. However, the BMJ study cited suggests that this practice may carry more risks than not using it at all. It is a well known fact that aspirin can cause gastrointestinal bleeding and bleeding in the brain both potentially causing death. Thus we have a risk with aspirin no matter how low the dose might be.
Taking Narcotic Analgesics is Tantamount to Courting Death
A few of the accused:
The drugs on the above list work by suppressing the central nervous system. As such they are capable of causing respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest, circulatory collapse and stroke to mention a few of the more serious risks associated with their use. They are notorious for being abused and creating may addicts along the way. Aside from addiction and these aforementioned life threatening risks to your health, chronic use of any of these drugs clearly shortens your life span by suppressing your immune system, creating autoimmunities, and causing heart, liver and kidney failure. It is truly amazing that any of these drugs are still allowed on the market with such potential danger they pose to the user. Too many celebrity deaths are testimonials to the evil of these people killers.
